Aims of Post:           To work with and for older people in their own home providing practical assistance and support both inside and outside their homes, to enable them to carry on living safely and independently.   Responsibilities   Work from an agreed Support Plan. To co-operate with clients, carers, relatives, other support workers and agencies to provide a flexible approach in maintaining independence.   Carry out required duties within the standards and guidelines of the Home Support Service.   Undertake referrals as assigned by the Team Leader/Care Admin team. Carry out tasks agreed with, and monitored by Team Leader.   Be aware of when a client’s needs may change and advise the Team Leader or, in their absence, the Care Admin team.   In the event of an emergency situation arising, to follow instructions as set out in the in the Home Support Service handbook provided at induction.   Comply with all appropriate procedures for reporting and record keeping including the secure maintenance of client details. Maintain proper records of all work carried out and any charges made, accounting for all monies collected or spent on behalf of the client.   Ensure the service is delivered with sensitivity and that clients’ rights to privacy, dignity, respect, confidentiality and choice are acknowledged at all times.   Contribute to monitoring the well-being of the client whilst they are receiving the service, respond to their needs in a caring manner and inform the Team Leader of any concerns.   Co-operate with Team Leader to improve and maintain service standards.   Ensure clients, relatives, other agency staff and members of the public (regardless of their attitude) are dealt with in a friendly and courteous and efficient manner as expected of a caring organisation.   To maintain an overall health and safety awareness and practice that promotes a safe and caring environment for the client and the lone worker.   To work as part of the Home Support Service team and attend all training, team meetings, supervisions and appraisals as and when required. Communicate appropriately and in a timely manner on issues of a highly sensitive nature in accordance with Safeguarding procedures.   To be sympathetic to the needs of older people, giving support and understanding when needed, encouraging and helping individuals to be as active as possible. Develop knowledge of all Age UK Warwickshire’s services within the area, as well as other suitable local services which clients may find beneficial. To undertake other reasonable duties from time to time as requested by the Team Leader.  Example of duties     Below are some examples of what duties may be included however this is not an exhaustive list and Home Support Assistants will be required to be flexible. Staff should not expect to be able to pick and choose what they will and will not do; flexibility will exist. General housework including, cleaning kitchens, bathrooms and toilet areas, polishing and dusting, vacuuming and cleaning floors, internal window cleaning (where it’s safe to do so). Laundry, ironing, changing bed linen. Spring cleaning – cupboards, defrosting and cleaning fridges and freezers. One-off deep cleans in agreement with Team Leader. Light gardening (mowing, weeding) Pension and prescription collection, paying bills. Shopping or escorting the client to the shops and appointments. Support with meal preparation or snacks. Assistance with correspondence. Other activities that provide social interaction. Collecting client from hospital
